Affiliate links

In short: I sometimes earn money for recommending products and applications that I love. It doesn't cost you anything extra, and it gives me a little (and I do mean little) extra income.

An affiliate link is a fancy term that means I signed up for a program  with a company to earn a little extra money. Basically, when I recommend a product, service, or application that I actually enjoy and use, and you click that link and buy something, I may earn a small commission. You are NEVER charged extra if you click and buy using an affiliate link (because if such a program exists, I will NEVER use it), and the income helps me keep Oak & Pine running.

Currently I am enrolled as an affiliate with two companies: Amazon and Canva. Why? Because I read 98% of my books on Amazon (and buy most of my technology, sans phones, there), and Canva is perhaps the most useful graphics tool I have ever come across–paid or unpaid.

I will never affiliate with a service or product that I don't personally use and enjoy.  That is not only a waste of my time, but a waste of your time as well. That said, you may occassionally see an affiliate link for a book I haven't read yet. If that happens, you can bet your booty I trust the author, have read something of theirs before and enjoy it, and/or it comes so highly recommended it made it to the top of my never-ending to-be-read pile.

How will you know when I use affiliate links? Well, I put a nice little note at the top of the page (blog, or otherwise) telling you the page contains affiliate links. So if you don't want to support Oak & Pine in that way, you can simply not click the links. :)

Privacy policy

In short: a lengthy document explaining all the ways this site collects and uses your personal data.

Practically every website you go to has a privacy policy.  Most people never look at them, but legally we are required to post them in case you are ever curious about what the heck we do with your personal information. This includes how we: gather, use, disclose, story, and manage your data.

Personal information is literally anything that can be used to identify you: from your name and birthdate to your desire to invest in products (free and otherwise) to improve your writing.

On Oak & Pine, your data is collected using the Wix platform, Gmail, and MailerLite. Wix and MailerLit collect your data on our behalf and do nothing else with it. You can see their privacy policies here (Wix) and here (MailerLite).  Gmail collects information on our communications and they probably know more about you, me, and my mother, than my mother does. You can try and parse through their privacy policy here. It's a necessary evil... #sorry.
